Pressure to Quit Placed on Ozawa

In Tokyo, it was revealed that two out of three people who are voters refer to have the opposition leader of Japan to resign because of an existing funding scandal. This was the result of a survey launched last Thursday, as well as the latest sign which shows that the opposition leader might soon step down in order to save the chances of his party of snagging the election of this year. This survey is also the first that was made ever since the announcement made by Ichiro Ozawa last Tuesday. Ozawa had mentioned that it was in his plans to stay permanent on his post despite the fact that there was evidence of support for the slightly unpopular Taro Aso as the Prime Minister. The figures had risen around eight whole points to rest at twenty three point seven, even though more than thirty three percent of voters have reported to still be dissatisfied with his performance.

More Losses for Ozawa

Yet another troubling signal for the opposition leader Ozawa is a news agency poll conducted by Kyodo. It had been reported in this particular poll that Ozawa also lost his early lead over the Aso because of voters who had wanted to see another candidate as a premier instead of it being him. He was quite teary eyed when he had mentioned this in a news conference last Tuesday. One close aide ended up being charged with the task of accepting corporate donations that were illegal in nature with him staying on in his post. However, he had left his door open to the possibility of quitting should the support of his Democratic Party will slide, thus endangering its own chances come election time in October.

Hope for Breaking Political Deadlocks

In all actuality, a victory by the Democratic party would not necessarily signal a shift in policy. However, there are also a lot of investors who are hoping that the very thing would be the reason for a break in political deadlock because such is stymieing many efforts to rescue the economy of Japan from plunging deeper into the recession. The opposition party also vows to decrease the grip of the beauraucrats on their decision-making, citing consumer rights and worker right as in their best interest compared to corporate ones. They also plan to adopt a diplomacy that is less subservient to their security ally found in the United States of America. The personal ratings of Aso still continue to suffer from several issues of policy flip flops and gaffes. Because of this, there were a lot of lawmakers who have been running the Liberal Democratic Party such as Toshihiro Nikai (trade minister) and acknowledging donations made during the entire fundraising scandal.
