Small Business Hard to Find Benefits in Stimulus Law
President Obama’s seven hundred and eight seven billion dollar recovery package signed last Tuesday only has something for the small business owners. Some of them even complained that the benefits they could get from such a law were not easy things to figure out. Michael J. Fredrich, who is the president of MCM Composites, says that nobody really has the time to read through the whole thing. MCM Composites is a company that produces composite molding parts in a highly engineered facility in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. As the Chief Executive Officer of Orb Audio, Ethan Siegel feels that there may be nothing in the stimulus plan for his home theater speaker system company. This was his dismal first impression of the bill. However, after some time Mr. Siegel decided he was going to dig deeper and investigate further into this bill. He was able to find out that there was a provision that can increase the loan guarantees for the lenders of the Small Business Administration. This, according to Siegel, can make things a lot easier for his company, which traces its main office in New York, in order to secure a solid line of credit. With this line of credit, he can then do a lot more things even if the amount of capital stays the same. This, he says, is the exact purpose of their stimulus package.
Digging Deeper
There were also some things which caught his attention. One was a provision that can offer a tax credit for many businesses which goes into hiring disadvantaged workers, such as war veterans and the disconnected youth – young ones who are not enrolled in school or who are not employed. Such a credit might work to be a tipping point in between hiring and not hiring, according to Seigel. This may very well be true for their company, which focuses on building speakers in the United States of America as well as the people who have production skills that also fall into such a category. The business owners as well as their tax advisers are discovering that they need to do a bit of detective work in order to figure out how they can benefit from such a law. Apparently, it also includes some tax reliefs for many businesses as well as individuals and some spending provisions as well.
Positive Outlook
As the Chief Executive Officer of Advantor Systems Corporation, Todd Fleming – who is also a military contractor – mentions that he has found the spending allocated only for the military construction. The company he owns, which is based in Orlando Florida, is in charge or making and installing some high-security systems which is used in military installations all over the world. For him, this is the type of spending that would provide the stimulus he and people in his industry needs.
