Cash Opportunities from the Taxman
It may not be very often that the government decides to give you another chance to make a couple of dollars if you had missed out on the first one. But then again, such is the case for the Recovery Rebate Credit. This is part of the economic stimulus package which was passed by the Congress last 2008. Behind this idea is that if you work to put more of your money into the hands of the many consumers, then they would start spending more in order to encourage economic activity. The many stimulus checks that were mailed out last year were in fact advances on the credit, which is the government’s way of getting this money into the hands of people soon. How Much, Exactly?
Usually, taxpayers will get around six hundred dollars each – one thousand two hundred dollars if they are married and file it jointly – and an additional three hundred dollars for each child they have. This credit started phasing for the individuals who had income that was higher than seventy five thousand dollars – or roughly one hundred and fifty thousand dollars for the married couples who filed it jointly. If eligible, individuals get the minimum payout of three hundred dollars. The Treasury ended up paying around ninety six billion dollars to push the stimulus checks forward in the previous year. This economic stimulus package which was signed earlier in the year is pretty much having the intended effect, according to George W. Bush, former US president.
Last August, he said that many Americans who had received their tax rebates are pretty much spending them. There have also been reports that businesses are also taking full advantage of these tax incentives in order to purchase even newer equipment. There have also been signs that this stimulus package will still continue to have a good impact on the economy into the second half of this year. However, it turned out that the effect was pretty much short lived, because the consumers ended up pulling back, because of the hit in rising prices and the falling home values – as well as deepening unemployment and the tight credit market – it was on the unsuccessful side. And because of this, the economy ended up with an even bigger problem as it relied on consumer spending in order to make things go up again.
Based on Returns from 2007
The basis of the initial rebates rested on the 2007 tax returns. If you have an income that has fallen or the situation of your family ended up changing, you might be eligible. If you were not eligible the previous year or ended up getting a reduced one they you will probably be able to get your hands on the Recovery Rebate Credit once you file for 2008. It is also estimated that there is an additional ten billion dollars that will get paid through their credit limit for this year.
