Finger Length: A Predictor of Financial Success

According to one study, the ring finger lenght of a man is a good predictor of his success when working as a financial trader. In fact, the same study also says that when the ring finger is longer, it means one will make more money in this industry.
Finger Length Success Predictor: Fad or Fact?

Many researchers coming from the England-based University of Cambridge had recently reported that when a man has a longer ring finger than his index finger, he will have a bigger tendency to experience success in such a field – especially in a highly frantic one such as financial trading. Such news has been on the mouths of nearly all traders in the financial district of London. As it turns out, the impact of this biology when it comes to the success in such a field would probably be more equal to the number of years he has spent on the job. This was according to the report presented by psychologist John M. Coates and his team during last Monday’s Proceedings from the National Academy of Sciences.

Associations of Value or Coincidence Factor?

This ratio of ring to index finger has also been associated much with the same amount of success but this time in the realm of competitive sports like football and the American pastime, basketball, according to the same researchers. The length ratio that can be found between these two fingers would invariably be determined by the developmental rate of one’s fetus as well as a relatively longer length in ring fingers. What this actually points to is the fact that this greater exposure to androgen, which is the male hormone, then comes into play. Past studies also show that this kind of exposure will lead them to a significant increase in confidence, persistence in search, one’s preference for risk and risk taking behavior, a heightened sense of vigilance and of course a quicker reaction time.

Other studies that were conducted in the previous year indicates that Coates and his entire team were able to come up with reports that show that the same hormone which drives sexual interest and male aggressions would also be able to boost up their short term success when it comes to their own finances – either professional or personal or both. The basis for most of these studies is done on the male financial traders found in London. Researchers took samples of their saliva twice, in the morning and in the evening. Through these samples, they were able to find out that such males who worked as financial traders and with higher testosterone levels that appeared in the morning had a bigger chance of making a uniquely big profit during that day.
