Tech That Doesn't Work Won't Let Us Work
Some people yell at drivers, roll their eyes when they cant stand in line for more than two hours. Some complain about greedy executives, out-of-touch politicians and even newscasters. One thing that makes people mad is stuff that doesn’t work especially business technology.
Computers and software were the sixth most complained about category at the Federal Trade Commission in 2007. Around 27,000 people where pissed off to bother reporting stuff that wasn’t working to the governments. Good thing tech companies don’t make things that need to work all the time like airplanes.
TiVo Fails Me
Here are tech products that have been failing most people. MagicJack, a device that attaches to the computer and promises that, for only 20 bucks a year, one can make unlimited calls to anyone in North America from any regular phone, over the Internet. And you can most of the time.
Unfortunately, the quality is bad sometimes, or the call drops, or you dial a number four times before it can be connected. Good for Skype and some other Internet-based calling services.
Then there's TiVo. You pay a monthly fee for your TiVo service at home. Except the TiVo sometimes loses the connection to its router and doesn't get updated with new data. And about 1 out of 10 times it records the wrong channel.
Users of Sirius XM Radio are accustomed to dead spots and lost signals—especially in the bottom of the ninth. That’s one that would really be a bother.
