Voice-Enable iPhone Applications to adopt Global IP Solutions’ Voice Engine Mobile Tech
Apple’s second generation iPhone is adopting a specifically adapted version of Global IP Solutions’(GIPS’) VoiceEngine Mobile Technology similar to that employed by Skype and other Net based VoIP services. This technology will be of immense assistance to the developers of iPhone applications to add real time VoIP communications of high quality. The VoiceEngine technology, according to the Director of GIPS’ Product Management Division, will take a substantial amount of the components of VoIP processing, especially the ones that are hard to handle, like transmission and packaging and convert it into easy to use packages. Essentially what GIPS intends to do is to build as series of libraries and a high level API to utilize those libraries into applications. As GIPS is only enablement oriented technology, it intends to provide the capabilities of binary executable applications for Apple customers to download. Two codecs developed by Global IP Solutions will be accessed by the VoiceEngine. One is the iSAC codec an adaptive broadband VoIP codec, part of the GIPS MediaWare™ voice processing software suite, designed specially to deliver wideband sound quality in both low- and high-bit rate applications. The other is the narrow band Internet Low Bit Rate Codec (ILBC), specially suitable for streaming audio, archival and messaging. The iLBC codec is really imbedded in the iPhone. GIPS already has a good idea of the kind of voice enabling applications that will be developed. Specific customer agreements have not been disclosed as yet but it seems that quite a number of customers have been contacted.
One application that GIPS expects to be used will undoubtedly be “Instant Messaging(IM)”. This will be the addition of the capability to have voice chat together with text chat. Another area for potential development is the gaming arena and augmentation of social networking websites.
It was also pointed out by GIPS’ Senior Director of Product Management, that large organizations are continuing to lean more and more to Wi-Fi based unified communication systems. As such a Voice and Instant Messaging enabled client will be most welcome. GIPS intends to be a part of this game also.
The iPhone Apps – Here They Come
Apple has thrown its doors open for third party developers for the iPhone. Mobilized applications and Smart Phones constitute a growing market and the third party developers are falling over themselves to cash in on the bonanza that is there for the taking. GIPS' Director of Product Management was all for enabling the ability of its customers to concentrate on just what they do best; enterprise applications in IM applications, Gaming or Social Networking.
With an understanding of their customers and their requirements, boosting their experience within a particular application wit voice communications is what is wanted and GIPS intends to handle that and make the job easier.
