China Allows Yuan to Be Utilized in Several Export Deals

The People’s Republic of China will be seeking to boost their exports this year and in the coming year. This may be done by their being able to allow the Yuan to participate in several foreign trade transactions. Furthermore, China is also planning to launch its own pilot program in Beijing. This program will enable their currency to compete in international trade transactions, says the government. Such a move is geared towards shoring up the battered exporters of their country.

Program Particulars

Furthermore, the program will also allow the Yuan to be used in trade between Hong Kong and Macau. Hong Kong and Macau are two self-governed territories of China and are also targeting the heart of their mainland industry of export, which are Guangdong province as well as the delta of the Yangtze River. This was the news reported by the web site of the central government of China last Wednesday. Such a statement also mentions the plans wherein these transactions will be permitted access between the different southwestern Chinese regions of Guangxi and Yunnan, as well as the ASEAN or the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (a ten-member association). There were also some details of the program that remained unannounced, such as the actual time when the program would begin and for how long it would last, or even what particular mechanisms would be in place.

An Economic Stimulus

The program, according to Premier Wen Jiabao, is one of many economic stimulus measures for China. Among these include an increase in terms of the number of retail stores in the rural areas of China and also an increase in export tax rebates for products that are considered to be high tech. This pilot project for the currency also aims to create significant improvements in financial services that are of export quality, as well as lend a helping hand to the many small and medium-sized companies. This was also released in a statement by the government. At the moment, the Chinese currency Yuan is not involved in international trade and there are a lot of mainland companies that are interested in conducting business with other industries that work around Euros and dollars.

This program could do a lot to actually simplify the entire process, especially at this time when many Chinese exporters have experienced being hammered by certain drops in the foreign demand, thereby leading to thousands of closures and layoffs in factories. Such a malaise is also said to be spreading its way inland as a form of domestic demand for steel, goods and automobile weakens. Many communist leaders have also warned that there will indeed be more job losses that could fuel certain unrest and press many employers to minimize their efforts to cut back.
